YANYU DONG

Yanyu Dong is a Chinese filmmaker, visual artist, and film festival programmer whose work engages contemporary ethnographic practices as a means of examining cultural dissonance, displacement, and the experience of being an international artist. She received her BA from the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts and her MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. She has served as Programming Director for the Los Angeles Chinese Film Festival and as a programmer for the Slamdance Film Festival and the Durban International Film Festival. Her work has been exhibited internationally and has received recognition including the Tom Berman Award for Most Promising Filmmaker at the Ann Arbor Film Festival and Best Experimental Short at the HiShorts! Film Festival, as well as a Best Short Award nomination at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, among others. She is currently in post-production on Shùnjiān (The Moment), which she produced and performed in.
